It’s hard to know where to start and where to stop with telling the story of today’s guest Deryl Dodd. When Carly and I record these interviews, they are usually in the neighborhood of 45 minutes to an hour long. Our conversation with Deryl was so good, so in depth and so captivating that we just went with it and kept the tape rolling. The result is a 4-episode audio journey recounting one of the most compelling and moving life stories of a country singer-songwriter, artist and sideman that I think you will ever hear. So let’s just say it’s Deryl Dodd month at The Troubadour and we couldn’t be more honored to bring his story to our listeners.
Deryl’s life as a country artist has been a rollercoaster; one of some incredible highs and one of some incredible challenges resulting in some painful lows. One of nearly inconceivable lucky moments backed by hard work and talent taking him to the summit of the mountain, and one of incredibly distressing and potentially devastating events, some life-threatening, that remind us all how unfair life can be at times, no matter who you are.
In these next few episodes you are going to hear some very familiar names that impacted Deryl’s life and career including the likes of Dean Dillon, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Tracy Lawrence and more.
So rather than me pealing back the onion anymore, I’m going to let Deryl speak for himself. Be prepared to be moved, to laugh and to choke up with tears welling up in your own eyes, just like mine did.
