Welcome to episode #180! This week, Matt and Braden talk about the truths of STDs and STIs with Dr. Zee M.D.

Sexual health is big on God’s Heart

He designed sex as a beautiful covenant between man and woman, especially in marriage. One sin is no bigger than another, but sexual sin is the only sin that is against our own bodies. We can see it like autoimmune diseases - one healthy cell fighting your own cells. Sexual sin and immorality relates to your sexual health which then relates to your physical, emotional and mental health. 

STDs and STIs in the HealthCare system. 

There are daily visits for patients (approximately 20-30% of patients) coming to doctors offices regarding sexual health. It has become a more open topic to talk about sexual practices, partners and sexual health. An STI is an infection spread through sexual contact: oral, vaginal or anal. Often it becomes an STD. According to WHO, there are 1 million STIs acquired/day (that are recorded, mainly in first world countries). There are many long term effects that can affect you on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. The CDC has calculated that 16 billion dollars is spent on STDs/year (for first world countries).  

There can be hope in place of shame when dealing with STDs.  

There can be shame when you are diagnosed with an STD or STI however, shame is a lie meant to bring you down and feel like you are far from God. Your true identity is in Christ and not in your diagnosis. There are still medical advancements that can help people get through some of the more permanent ramifications. There is hope and love when Christ invades us. Purity can be redeemed. It starts with a pure mind and then goes to our heart and body.
