Incarcerated: Prisoner 171435 | Kerry Tucker - 693
"Being in prison made me a better person." - Kerry Tucker
Not the words you'd expect from someone who left two very young daughters on the outside and spent 5 years in maximum security prison, right? Well, Kerry Tucker, once known as prisoner 171435, is far from what you'd expect in many ways. She's someone who for 5 years, imprisoned with some of Australia's most notorious female inmates.
Despite the environment, the stigma, and the suffering that comes with being a mother who was forced to face her fate in prison and abandon her young girls in the process, Kerry took the cards she was dealt and made sure she made amends with her destiny.
From the day of her release, with a Master of Arts degree in hand, Kerry walked into a job with Swinburne University (I know, right?!) and has since attained a PhD, contributed to the script writing for Wentworth season 1 and dedicates herself to being an advocate for educating women in prison.
A true beacon of hope for those who think they cannot turn their life around.
