From 28min 5k To 7xNCAA Champion: The Incredible Story Of Alex Philip
Today on the podcast is Alex Philip!
Alex currently runs for The University of North Carolina. He graduated from John Carroll University in 2023 and was known for his exceptional achievements in running. Alex was a 7xNCAA DIII Champion and held multiple DIII National Records, including in the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m distances. He became just the fifth runner in DIII history to win back-to-back National Championships in XC. His performance helped lead the team to a back-to-back 4th place in the country podium finish. Alex was also named the 2021 & 2022 USTFCCCA Division III Men's Cross Country National Athlete of the Year. He holds PRs of 4:04 (Mile), 7:53.24 (3k), 13:44.98 (5K), and 28:48.88 (10k).
In today's episode, Alex and I discuss his start in the sport, playing ultimate frisbee during practice, going to John Caroll, getting serious about the sport, winning an unfathomable amount, setting records, transferring to UNC, and much more! Today's conversation was absolutely fantastic. Alex's story and progression are beyond inspiring, and I can't wait to see how it impacts you all.
