Shane Pinto's NHL suspension reflects urgency for sports betting education
Mark Silver traded places with Steve McAllister in the host’s chair for the latest episode of the Gaming News Canada Show presented by Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, and led a conversation on the NHL’s 41-game suspension of Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto.
Silver welcomed Jean-Francois Raymond, a former European pro basketball player and current education ambassador for the International Betting Integrity Association, who spoke about IBIA’s global efforts on monitoring integrity in sport and providing athletes and other participants in sport with information on competition manipulation.
Amanda Brewer and Phill Gray lent their voices to the discussion and also addressed their recent departures from Kindred Group and Sports Interaction, respectively. Brewer provided her perspective on the slow push for regulated online sports betting and gaming in Alberta, as reported on in Thursday’s Gaming News Canada newsletter. Gray addressed his departure from Sports Interaction after two decades as the head of trading operations for the Canadian sportsbook.
