In this episode, we explore the three centers of intelligence in the Enneagram: thinking, feeling, and instinctual. These centers group together different Enneagram types based on their primary drivers and motivations.
The thinking center encompasses types five, six, and seven. These types are primarily driven by their thoughts and have a strong desire for knowledge, understanding, and intellectual stimulation. They rely on logical reasoning and their minds when making decisions.
The feeling center includes types two, three, and four. These types are driven by their emotions and seek connection, validation, and personal significance. They are in touch with their feelings and are often sensitive to the emotions of others.
The instinctual center comprises types eight, nine, and one. These types are driven by their instincts and have a desire for control, justice, independence, and peace. They are more focused on the present moment and excel in handling crises or tactical situations.
It's important to note that while each center of intelligence has a general core motive, the specific manifestations of these motives can vary greatly among the types within each center.
Understanding the three centers of intelligence in the Enneagram can greatly benefit individuals in their roles as leaders, parents, and partners. By recognizing their own core motives and understanding the motives of the other eight types and the other two centers of intelligence, individuals can grow and develop personally and as leaders. This understanding allows them to embrace different perspectives and operate more effectively in various situations.
