"You don't joke about cancer, but me and Zane had this stupid, funny relationship so like, I was just waiting for him to say it's just a joke or something..."
At 18 when you go for an MRI to discover what's inhibiting your training, you don't expect walk out with an aggressive cancer diagnosis. Zac had been there for his best mate Zane when his family lost their home in the bushfires. They'd built an incredible bond, and 18 months after his diagnosis, Zane was taken by Osteosarcoma.
Today Zac shares the warts-and-all encounter with this experience. How at 19 he coped and processed his grief and loss. How amidst the pandemic he discovered running (and eventually ultra running) and how this became his vehicle to not only process his experience and his emotions but also to raise awareness for Osteosarcoma through launching the Not-For-Profit T2KO. (Get around it!)
This is a touching and honest chat with someone who's been through more than they should and has found perspective and purpose throughout the adversity and chaos.
