Today we are talking about a poker game that spun wildly out of control and turned into a robbery and shooting, and that was just the start of this case!
The reason we are discussing this case is because during the investigation the defendants iPhone was searched and during that search the investigator found evidence of another crime that he was subsequently charged with. The defendants lawyer tried to argue that the search warrant that was used was too broad and therefore the evidence should not be allowed, and the case went all the way up to the U.S. Court of Appeals.
This case brought up a number of different 4th amendment issues and how the law is being interpreted given the new technologies that exist today and so we thought it was an interesting case to bring up with our audience.
