THE WREN, THE WREN by Anne Enright, read by Anne Enright, Aoife Duffin, Owen Roe, Liza Ross
Anne Enright, Aoife Duffin, Owen Roe, and Liza Ross perform Enright’s latest novel. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile’s Kendra Winchester discuss a story of family and the complexities of young love. Duffin narrates as Nell, a 20-something woman who, when she meets her boyfriend’s parents, finds they care to discuss only her famous grandfather, Irish poet Phil McDaragh. Enright performs the perspective of Nell’s mother, Carmel, a woman who lived her childhood in her father’s shadow, and her narration imbues Carmel with warmth and resolve. Owen Roe and Liza Ross provide additional voices for poems and letters written for Carmel and Nell.
