This evening we share a great story about the Baal Shem Tov to explain the value of the birthright Esav sold for a bowl of soup, and realize we all make the same mistake Esav made. We question the assumption around the question of why each parent wanted a different son to be blessed. We examine a critical lesson from Rivkah about Shalom Bayit, harmony within the home, with each spouse respecting the other with their finances. And we explore the magnificent lesson of Rabbi Norman Lamm who explains the benefit, not of the Garden of Eden, but East of Eden. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
