This Thanksgiving farmers across Tennessee are gathering with their families to share a meal and give thanks, just like the first Thanksgiving in the 1600's. We hear from several farmers on what they're thankful for and how they are celebrating.

Thanksgiving on the farm. Hello and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I'm Thomas Capps. This Thanksgiving families across the nation are gathering to share a meal and of course give thanks. It's believed the centuries old tradition dates back to the 1600s when early settlers here in America celebrated their harvests that year. And today, farmers right here in Tennessee continue that tradition as they give things for a bountiful harvest, just like the first Thanksgiving. Farmers like Spencer Stewart of Weakley County.

This year, I'm thankful, you know, above all, for the health of my family and my own thankful for a good crop, despite a tough growing season. Just thankful to be part of this organization doing things for the greater good of agriculture in the state.

A similar sentiment from Jonathan Mixon in Jefferson County
Jonathan Mixon
For me, I mean, you know, just a good year in the field, you know, excellent crops. And you know, just just fortunate to live where we do.

Carolyn Oaks is giving things in Bledsoe County.

I am so thankful for all my family. I've got two sons, five grandchildren and a precious husband. We try to spend it with our daughter in law, and our youngest son, and he has five children. And it is just, we're just blessed.

In Smith County Mike Scudder is celebrating big with his family.

God has blessed me and my family. I mean, we have a big family gathering and get together on Thanksgiving. And, you know, it's almost as big as Christmas Thanksgiving. Because, you know, we are thankful where we've been blessed. This organization has been blessed I think I think Farm Bureau needs to be thankful that they're still as strong as who they are and they're farmer oriented. And so we all have a lot to be thankful for.

Indeed we do have a lot to be thankful for. And we hear at Tennessee Home and Farm Radio are thankful for all of you who listen, we wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving. For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I'm Thomas Capps.
