Gospel Reflection– Fr Mark De Battista– King of Mercy and Hope (Fr Mark says that all the other aspects of Christ's mystery have happened in the past except for today’s feast, we're celebrating something that is yet to come, that Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, those who recognise him, those who do not recognise him, his friends, his enemies. Interestingly, when Jesus comes again to cast his final judgement, Our Lord doesn't ask, well did you go to mass every Sunday? Did you say your prayers every day? Have you kept all the 10 commandments? Notice how they're missing from the gospel. What he does include, however, are those practical questions, the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. This ought to be very much a confronting point for each one of us. Today's feast ought to be hopeful and life giving for us as we pray in joyful hope for the blessed coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we all stand firm and be able to resist the difficulties around us as we long for the coming of Christ in glory.)
