Fire in Paradise: An American Tragedy by Alastair Gee and Dani Anguiano, read by T. Ryder Smith
The November 2018 fire that levelled the towns of Paradise and Concow was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California's history, and the most expensive natural disaster in the world that year. Named the Camp Fire, after its place of origin on Camp Creek Road, the fire was ignited by a faulty electric transmission line, and claimed 85 lives, and displaced more than 50,000 people, leading to a refugee crisis that continues to unfold today.
Alastair Gee is an award-winning editor and reporter at the Guardian who has also written for The New Yorker online, the New York Times, and the Economist. Gee lives in New York City.
Dani Anguiano writes for the Guardian and was formerly a reporter for the Chico Enterprise-Record, where she covered Butte County, including Chico and Paradise. Having lived in Butte County for a decade, Anguiano now lives in the San Francisco Bay area.
