What Kyle McCord entering the transfer portal means for Ohio State’s quarterback room
Kyle McCord spent one season as Ohio State's starting quarterback and now he's decided to enter the transfer portal.
The former five-star quarterback was once the first offensive player to commit to the Buckeyes with Ryan Day as their head coach spending his first two years in the program as C.J. Stroud's backup. Then he took over the starting role in 2023 leading them to an 11-1 record with the one loss being to Michigan. Overall he's 12-1 as a starting also stepping in for an injured Stroud in 2021 against Akron.
McCord is only the latest transfer for OSU, but he's also its most prominent as his departure leaves even more questions for Day to answer about a program that is sitting outside of the College Football Playoff. Is the guy who will replace McCord already on the roster, an incoming freshman or will there be a need to bring in a transfer as Ohio State goes through yet another quarterback battle this offseason?
On this emergency episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Andrew Gillis discuss all of that and more.
