But is this the understanding the Bible gives about consciences? What is the conscience, and what is its role, especially in the life of a believer? The conscience is a God-given warning system that He has built into all of us. It’s the part of us that passes judgment, an internal means by which we judge things that are right or wrong, good or bad. The conscience is an important part of us that is meant to serve us well and should never be taken lightly. Dr. Caldwell says there are a few things we should know about the conscience.
