Investigation and Discovery

On June 30, 2020, human remains were discovered near the Leon River in Bell County, Texas. Through DNA analysis, these remains were confirmed to be those of Vanessa Guillén.

The Suspects and Legal Proceedings

The primary suspect in Guillén's murder was identified as Spc. Aaron Robinson, a fellow soldier at Fort Hood. As law enforcement closed in, Robinson fled the base and later died by suicide as police attempted to apprehend him. A civilian, Cecily Aguilar, was also implicated in the case. She was accused of helping Robinson dispose of Guillén's body and faced federal charges related to the crime.
