We are about to begin a new year in a couple of days. After holidays are ended people begin to become somber. They begin to wonder what next year will bring.
They are looking at the year behind and going through things to mourn as loss and other things as gain. It is a time of "great searchings of hearts."
On the other hand it is a springing forward with hope. Most people are glad to start a new year because they have longings and goals. Paul the Apostle was always moving forward and teaching us to do the same.
"This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Phil. 3:13-14.
Notice he says, "this one thing I do" as to show it as an ongoing practice he employs. We are ever moving forward, but there is something else.
We are reaching and pressing toward the mark of our eternal prize. For we have been given a high calling of God in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Make it your integral effort to answer that call. And to live by the grace of the Lord in the spirit of these words, for in them is the quality of eternity.
The quality of what will exist forever, things you have gained through loss and to see that you have won Christ.
"Live every day as if the Son of Man were at the door, and gear your thinking to the fleeting moment. Just how can it be redeemed? Walk as if the next step would carry you across the threshold of Heaven. Pray. That saint who advances on his knees never retreats." ~ Jim Elliot
