The More Freedom Foundation Podcast
News:Politics
In this episode, Rob and Ruairi discuss Venezuela’s vote to claim sovereignty over a large part of Guyana. The disputed territory of Essequibo is larger than Greece, rich in minerals, and boasts off-shore oil in massive quantities. The Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, is developing plans to formalize the annexation of Essequibo, a resource-rich region. Guyana considers the referendum a threat, which it absolutely is.
The situation is complex, and there are concerns that this could lead to a conflict between the two countries. The United States is unlikely to allow any such annexation to occur, but the issue will continue to be a live one as we head into 2024.
