Came to Christ with the help of his Dad at age 10
Has lead "Care for Aids" for the last decade, which empowers people to have a life beyond AIDS
At age 18 he attended a conference where he faced the reality of HIV and that the church was silent on this issue
He went to Kenya and met 2 pastors and together they formed this organization
Justin originally thought he would follow his Dad in business, but God was calling him to something different
They believe the virus first jumped from monkeys to humans in the early 1900's. In the early 1980's they first saw cases present
Half of the new cases come from east and south Africa, and they're not sure exactly why
We still have 2MM new cases each year
Our response moving forward needs to go beyond testing and treatment
80% of those infected are part of the general population, in heterosexual relationships
The church is still not very involved in this issue
This is one of the most vulnerable groups of people on this earth that are not being helped by the church
With medication and proper nutrition, many people infected with HIV live a normal life span
At any given time, there are about 5,000 people enrolled in the program which lasts about 9 months. They stay living in their homes and come to receive services 6-8x/month which includes counseling including a Biblical view of who they are and their dignity and self-worth and tools to help them take care of their families
We've seen over 52,000 orphans prevented as a result of the program
We've had over 4,000 make a first time profession of faith, we have over 500 Muslim clients in our program
Wherever you've been placed to serve, that's an amazing mission field...you can be involved in caring for the marginalized
Politics aside, it's a non-negotiable for believers to care for those who are marginalized
Scritpure shows we're supposed to partner with God to bring renewal to earth
We have a mandate to passionately demonstrate the Gospel as well as passionately proclaim the Gospel in word and deed
We need to continually find the right balance between the spiritual space and physical space
Q&A
If we complain about government being too involved in social services, we have to provide ways to meet these needs
If the church was the safety net, it would really transform the reality of our political landscape
Favorite scripture is Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, work out with all your heart as working for the Lord and not for man", as I've grown that verse is more about how we work as a way to worship

Many in Africa cannot work. Work is an amazing opportunity to witness and to worship God
