The Bible In Order - a chronological Bible commentary
Religion & Spirituality:Christianity
1/7/2024 - Job 14-16 - Chronological Bible Study (rebroadcast)
Hello friends, welcome to daily Bible, reading, it's January 7th.
And the reading for today is job, chapters 14 through 16, the dialogue the discourse, the contention, the oral arguments continue between job and his companions.
And when reading this, I'm trying to get into jobs mind.
I'm trying to understand his perspective.
I'm trying to understand the perspective of his friends.
And I'd love to learn God's perspective as well.
Now it's interesting because job at this point is in my mind, double-barreled unleashing not holding back.
I'd rather be dead.
He says I wish that I'd never been born, I have no hope and he goes was interesting.
He goes from talking to his companion, you know.
To Like a Prayer.
It's like, he Transitions and and he accuses God in chapter 14.
Yeah.
At the end of chapter 14, he says you destroy a man's hope. and the religious guy inside of me that I'm trying to get rid of with all of my might Who like, you know, growing up in church and it's like how dare you defame God?
How dare you accuse God like God is able to defend himself right?
He does not need us to be his Defender.
Certainly he wants us to stand up for the truth sometimes.
But in this situation, Job is going directly to God and you know what I think and I could be wrong but I think God is pleased.
With the honesty of job.
When job says to God, you have destroyed my hope.
Isn't that so much better than for us to Grumble and complain about what God has done or about what has happened to us.
You know, I think so many of us, we have, we have this tendency, like the Israelites we've been delivered out of slavery and I were wandering around in the desert, God's feeding us every day and we're like we were better off when we were slaves.
Remember back, then, when we had our own tends to sleep in and you know, I mean yeah, we got whipped and we had to make bricks without clay and all this other stuff.
It was so Sundown, it was back-breaking work, but at least like we knew where we were going to sleep every night.
And I think that's also the the difference that I'm seeing between job and his friends, like job knows that he didn't really do anything wrong to deserve all of this horrible stuff that's happening to him and to his wife.
Thank you, Mary.
His friends don't have any proof of accusation like he they didn't see him do anything wrong, they came and they assumed that he must have done something wrong.
So, what does that say about their perspective and their worldview?
Are they afraid to admit that, perhaps, if God is allowing these things?
Or even ordaining these things to happen in jobs, life, and job, didn't sin, then perhaps they might I have to deal with them in their own lives, too.
Well.
Try to soak it in friends.
This was about Job chapters 14 through 16 in the reading for today.
In January 7th, God bless you all.
