Shifting levels of hormones affect a woman’s health post-menopause. Earlier in life women are suffering from PCOS in higher frequencies.
In the dental chair we observe a rise in gum disease as bone loss supporting that support the teeth in the jaw. Bleeding gums during menstruation may be the first sign of hormone imbalance.
One of the main health risks in post-menopausal women is osteoporosis. A big factor in bone loss (and for dental health) is long term hormone imbalance.
There is also a link between hormones and gum disease is one that I've observed in patients, but the role of hormones runs far deeper to your heart.
Menopause is often associated with high blood pressure, which is known to bring on atrial fibrillation, so what's the connection?
This week I'm talking with Dr. Felice Gersh, board certified OB-GYN and the medical director of IMGI.
Dr Gersh is a globally renowned expert in women’s health and complex disease management. In this episode we discuss her paper published in the journal HEART arm of the British Medical Journal titled: Post Menopausal Hormonal Therapy for Cardiovascular Health.
