This morning we discuss the insight I heard many years ago from Rabbi David Hartman, to explain why we experienced Exodus first, and only then God's revelation (at Sinai). This insight explains the priority of prayer in the synagogue rather than praying alone. It also explains the question of the "wicked" child at the Passover Seder, and the process of conversion to Judaism. We express this with a dramatic statement by Rachel Goldberg-Polin, and what every one of us can do to help her and her family.
Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
