Book III - Chapter X - Hamell On Trial "Bring The Kids"
Ed Hamell of Hamell on Trial has been the first name in Punk informed "Anti-Folk" for over 30 years. In the 1990's he signed with Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe Records, which garnered more fans and accolades, but "Bring The Kids" is a perfect example of why Hamell still stirs the hearts and minds of his staunchly loyal fanbase. It is a statement of dissatisfaction with the political, social, and subconscious. It is an album of love and hate songs, Punk and folk songs, electronic and acoustic songs. It has as much in common with Pete Seeger as it does with Husker Du, the Beastie Boys, and Portishead. It gleans from all it finds sonically interesting and then reinvents it for it's own ends. This is the penultimate Hamell record, you lucky dogs.
