Former President Donald Trump made a triumphant start in his re-election bid by securing a resounding win in the first 2024 Republican presidential contest in Iowa, solidifying his front-runner status in the party. With his main rival, Ron DeSantis, dropping out of the race, Trump looks set to represent the Republican Party in a rematch with the current US President Joe Biden.

The Economist asserts that Trump presents the “biggest danger” to the world in 2024. European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has also stated that a re-election of Trump as US president would represent a "threat" for Europe.
