NCAA investigates Tennessee & Florida for NIL violations – LSU could be next. But what does it mean?
The NCAA has notified the University of Tennessee that it is investigating the athletic department for potential NIL violations. Tennessee is the third school in the last few weeks to be under investigation for NIL-related violations, first Florida State, then Florida, and now Tennessee. But it isn't just those few schools against the NCAA; the reason for investigation from the NCAA will be a college football issue, LSU included.
The NCAA is investigating Tennessee flying a recruit on a collective donor's private jet. That, however, was not against the rules at the time. Therefore, the NCAA is attempting to retroactively enforce rules that did not exist for nearly an entire year after the Supreme Court unanimously voted that college athletes can benefit from the names, images, and likenesses. This is something that could absolutely be used against LSU along with several other schools across college athletics. But does the NCAA have a case? What is the future of college sports and its relationship with the NCAA?
