"The Benefits of Strength Training for Older Adults" with Exercise Physiologist Taylor Melvin
In this week's episode of "The Discover Strength Podcast," I'm joined by Senior Exercise Physiologist Taylor Melvin.
Taylor and I are discussing an article from 2020 in the Journal "Sports Medicine" on the benefits of strength training for what they termed the "very elderly", essentially clients aged 75 years and older. The applications of this article though targeted at older individuals have practical applications for younger individuals as well.
We discuss some of the biggest questions surrounding strength training for older individuals. This includes questions like: Can older trainees still see increases and strength and hypertrophy? As well one of the most important things to consider for older trainees: Is resistance training safe?
