"Body Building and the History of Strength Training" with Roger Schwab feat. Andy Alessio
In this episode of "The Discover Strength Podcast" legendary HIT practitioner Roger Schwab and I discuss his career and history in bodybuilding, and safe, evidence-based exercise.
Roger Schwab is a Legend in the field of High intensity Training. The Founder of Mainline Health and Fitness, and most recently X-Force Philadelphia, and is often regarded as one of the finest fitness experts in the US. Roger is a best-selling author, the first strength and conditioning coach at Penn State University, and was the former IFBB head judge between 1977-82, judging 5 Mr. & Ms. Olympia contests.
Schwab’s quest for sensible physical fitness began at Penn State University, where his interest in Olympic power lifting quickly led him to championship status. Early injuries taught Schwab to seek out the common sense truth about training the human body. Schwab developed his philosophy of improving functional ability, through a basic, twice-a-week regimen that delivers optimum results with a minimum of time spent in the gym. He still carries that same mentality and enthusiasm into his own workouts today, for himself and his clients.
Roger had a very close relationship with Nautilus and MedX Founder Arthur Jones. We talk a lot about Roger’s vast experience in the fitness industry, things he’s learned over the decades, and some things that he learned early on that he’s still committed to to this day.
