Addicted to Addicts: Survival 101 – The Drug Enforcement Administration and Prescription Drug Abuse
This week Denise speaks with Thomas Lenox, the supervisor of the Tactical Diversion Squad in San Diego, CA. The mission of this organization is enforcement of the diversion of controlled pharmaceutical drugs from legitimate use to illegitimate use. Mr. Lenox is a special agent with the DEA. During the interview we will hear about what kind of government control there is for doctors who prescribe pain killers and other narcotics that can be abused and also some things parents can do to become informed and help to prevent abuse by young people. There are also resources for teens to become aware and proactive to prevent drug abuse.
Prescription Drug Abuse has become an epidemic in our country. Deaths from accidental overdose of prescription drugs has overtaken car accidents as the number one cause of accidental death in most states. It is important that the general public become aware that this is pervasive and not just someone else’s problem. We need to get the dialog going and keep it going.
