“Where there is no vision, there is no hope.” - George Washington Carver
Coming into adulthood during the crack epidemic, I witnessed these words to be true in so many lives. The street level hustlers out there slinging rock knew they were in a profession with no future.
They knew their destination was the cemetery or prison but they didn’t see any way out. They couldn’t sing, couldn’t dance, couldn’t run fast, and didn’t have a jump shot. They couldn’t see a future for themselves. So they lived for the moment.
For many of us this feels like an extreme example- but how many of us stay in a bad relationship with the wrong partner because we don’t see a good one on the horizon? How many of us do reckless things with our money because we never see ourselves getting off the financial treadmill? How many of us eat a bad diet because we can’t see ourselves healthy? Same impulse.
It takes a positive vision ourselves in the future to give us the hope we need to do what we need to do today.
Peace be with you.
