10@9 Putting Theology into Action- February 6, 2024

This morning we provide a new answer to why Mishpatim (this week's Torah portion dealing with the Jewish legal system) directly follows last week's reading of the Ten Commandments. Based on an insight from Rabbi Elimelech Bluth, we understand the laws in Mishpatim as an explication of the first of the Ten Commandments, putting our belief in God into daily action. We convey this with an insightful story about the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Chassidut. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
