In the winter of 2001, inside of a Southern California police department, a fax machine in the corner of the room suddenly came to life. A moment later, a few pieces of paper fell into the tray, and an officer walked over and began reading them. As he did, his eyes went wide. The fax was a gold mine of evidence for an ongoing murder investigation that had begun to stall, so this fax was a major breakthrough. But as officers rushed over to see the fax for themselves, they all started to feel like something was off about the fax – it just seemed too good to be true. But regardless, the police followed up on the contents of the fax, and sure enough, it led them to their killer. However, let's just say the killer was not who anyone thought it would be.
