Episode 182: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s wild novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The film follows writer Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo as they race through the desert to get to Las Vegas where Duke has a race to cover for a magazine. As the two are speeding through the desert in a red convertible with a truck full of drugs they stop to pick up a hitchhiker. Duke and Gonzo begin talking to the hitchhiker about their plans in Vegas but in their manic state they scare the hitchhiker who when gets the opportunity jumps out of the car and runs for his life. Duke and Gonzo are terrified that the hitchhiker will go to the police and tell them about the drugs, in their impaired state they decide getting to Vegas as fast as possible is the best way to stay under the radar.
