10@9 Two Cherubic Elements of a Good Marriage - February 12, 2024

This morning we discuss the subtle distinction between two Hebrew words describing the Keruvim (the cherubs atop the Ark) that both mean two, based on an insight from Rabbeinu Bachaya, and a demonstration of this from Jewish criminal law from Netziv. From this we derive two basic layers to a happy marriage, paralleling, according to Rabbi Norman Lamm, the two lights we light for Shabbat, one at the beginning and one at the end. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
