His palmares is amongst the most unique in cycling's history. A Paris Roubaix winner, a champion at Paris-Nice, three Tour de Romandie titles and of course - in 1987, the Triple Crown which saw him join Eddy Merckx as the only men in the history of the sport to take home the Giro, Tour and World Championships in the same season. As we discovered, he's a capable raconteur off the bike too with more than a few enchanting stories of his time on the bike.
In this conversation we learned how the extraordinary 1987 season came to be, and how when it appeared his opponents held the upper hand, Stephen found a way to power back.
