In July this year, Te Pae Ora healthy futures bill comes in to effect. This replaces the 20 District Health Boards with Health New Zealand - a new Crown organisation - to provide a national health service with a strong focus on primary health care. It also establishes an independent Maori Health Authority to work in partnership with Health New Zealand. At the end of last year Riana Manuel was appointed to the role of CEO of the Maori Health Authority, after the roles of Chief Executive of Hauraki Primary Health Organisation and iwi-based not-for-profit Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki.
