The Beef Over Dueling ‘Jim’s’ Cheesesteak Spots
Jim’s Steaks in West Philly was a legendary cheesesteak spot that opened way back in 1939. It fell on hard times and closed in 2019. Last year, a local entrepreneur bought the restaurant and reopened it under a new name: Jim’s West.
But the son of the former owner has sued the new one, saying the shop can’t operate with the name “Jim’s” at all. That son, Carl Proetto, operates his own Jim’s Steaks in Delaware County. Host Trenae Nuri breaks down this whole cheesesteak feud with Victor Fiorillo, senior reporter at Philadelphia Magazine.
