The Moscow Police have published a list of individuals whom they consider to be uninvolved in the crime, such as the two surviving roommates, the man seen in the Grub Truck surveillance footage, the private party driver who drove Goncalves and Mogen home, the individual whom Goncalves and Mogen contacted multiple times on the night of their deaths, and anyone present at the residence when the emergency call was made to 911. Statements made by law enforcement officials have only served to complicate the investigation further.
Thompson, the Latah County prosecutor, said at least one of the victims was “undoubtedly targeted” in the attack.
Shortly thereafter, the Moscow Police department engaged in a conversation with Thompson and confirmed that his remarks were a result of miscommunication. In an apparent reversal of their previous statements, the police stated that they are currently uncertain whether the residence or any individuals within it were specifically singled out, but they are actively pursuing the investigation.
Subsequently, the police found it necessary to provide additional clarification, asserting their belief that the attack was indeed deliberate, although they have yet to determine whether the intended target was the residence itself or its occupants.
