“Rend your hearts and not your clothing” - From Joel 2:13

Those of us who participate in organized religion find beauty and meaning in the customs, traditions, and rituals. But unless we allow these to touch our hearts,  unless these serve as catalyst for transformed thinking, they are meaningless. 

The old timers described adult baptism without a sincere change of heart as going into the water as a devil coming out as a wet devil - 

To borrow the words of Isaiah the type of religion God wants us to practice is:

“…to loose the chains of injustice
    and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free and break every yoke… to share your food with the hungry
    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them…”
