“Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” - Genesis 32:28
All of Jacob’s insecurities had caught up with him. From the time they were born, Jacob envied his brother. The name Jacob itself meant grabber because it is said he was holding into his brother’s heel when they were born.
Jacob wanted his brother’s birthright and manipulated him out of it. Jacob outright stole his brother’s blessing. Jacob had to run because his brother had vowed to kill him. He never got to see his mother or father alive again.
He was about to see his brother again for the first time in a long time. His brother had an army of 400. Jacob was scared and alone… and he struggled with a stranger until he received a blessing.
His blessing was a new name and a new identity. He learned that he was enough, he had enough. In that moment he became an overcomer.
We become overcomes when we accept that we are not less than. We are enough. We have enough.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
