“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. “ - 1 Peter 4:8
Both in the ancient world and today, many of us are stuck with the idea that every wrong someone has done must be punished, must be paid for, before we can move forward.
We often demand restitution or retribution before we consider offending any level of forgiveness. We want the person in the wrong to be contrite and to have made amends before we even think about forgiving them.
Sometimes there’s just no making up for what they did. Sometimes we can’t make up for what we did. This is where love has to practiced.
Some people are still broken. And we may need to set and keep good boundaries to keep them from hurting us again.
Nevertheless, love allows us to let go of the anger and bitterness. Love allows us to let go of the pain when we allow ourselves to be filled with compassion for them. Only love can cover some sins.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
