“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” - 1 Peter 4:10
Another one of my favorite verses challenges not to just be hearers of the word but doers as well. We are not called to stand and watch the world pass us by. We are called to do whatever it is that we can do to make the world better- even if just by a little bit.
Two deep truths are implicit in this verse. The first is that every single one of us can do something; we all have gifts. We all have contributions that we can make.
The second is that we don’t all have the same gifts, the same abilities, the same skills, or interests.
We all have to take the time to figure out what it is that we can do, and then work to develop and deploy our gifting in the ways we have identified.
Finally, we need to stop comparing ourselves to others and stop expecting others to do the things we are gifted to do. Each of us is to use our gifts in the ways we believe best and allow others to do the same.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
