“God’s relentless care for those who are poor and suffering is the visible expression of our compassionate God, which moved the prophets from the praying stance of the psalms to courageous action on behalf of God's children in need.”
—Catherine T. Nerney
We pray that God opens our hearts, our minds, our spirits. We pray that we are given the empathy and understanding, the awareness of the various ways people are suffering.
We also pray that this awareness not be limited to the suffering of the people who we know and love, but also includes the stranger, the other, people who neither look like us or think like us.
We pray for the wisdom and clarity to know the ways in which we can respond to this suffering. Lastly we pray for the courage and relentless determination to move from prayer to action.
