“I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” - From Jeremiah 31:33
An important step in our spiritual journey is to grow beyond obligation based ethical practices which are imposed on us externally to love based ethical practices which are internally driven.
For most of us rules and regulations are an important first step in helping us think about how we can live together in community… Knowing what to do and not do in any given circumstance can be a real gift to us.
The danger is that we never go beyond them. Or worse, instead of our earnestly seeking the wellbeing of everyone when faced with a dilemma, we content ourselves with doing the minimum we must to meet our obligations- and we do all we can to avoid them at that.
Our goal is to live centered and guided by love in thought, word, and deed. As Paul writes, “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Our goal is to be guided by the love in our hearts.
I’m Horace McMillon, and this is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
