10@9 The Threat to Shechitah in Canada - March 13, 2024

This morning we discuss the critical threat to the viability of Shechitah (Kosher Slaughter) in Canada due to a recent change in government regulations requiring an extra step in the process. This approach fails to recognize the widely accepted scientific conclusion that Shechitah is the most humane method of slaughter, and accepting the government's regulation will cause more suffering to the animal, not less. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
