The Kingdom Corner with Matt Geib
Religion & Spirituality:Christianity
Continuing his series on Ephesians 4, Matt unpacks verses 8-16 on the unity of the church: Unity, the Antidote to Chaos.
[00:04:28] Matt notes that in the first few verses, the word “one” is used a full seven times.
[00:05:40] You are called to be a part of a figurative team of God’s to seek after the trophy of unity for the church.
[00:09:50] “You are called to be a soldier of action in God’s Kingdom.”
[00:13:30] Matt digs deep into the biblical language here, zeroing in on the aspect of unity that we’re aspiring to, identifies it as the “unity of the Spirit” that we are called to hold to and hold together.
[00:16:00] Bouncing around to a number of other New Testament scriptures, Matt highlights the role of “peace” in the binding of the church and its members together by the Spirit.
[00:21:00] Selfish ambition is the enemy of self-less wisdom. It antagonizes wisdom and is not that wisdom from above that Jesus champions.
[00:22:55] Love, peace, and wisdom are like strands woven together into the cord of unity that Matt says the church is called to be bound together by.
[00:24:30] Matt likens the church to the dynamics of a Navy SEAL team – each one with different strengths that lend themselves to the overall success of the team at accomplishing its elite mission objectives in the heat of the combat arena.
