On today's episode of Mormonish Podcast, we dive into the history of LDS church relations in Thailand. On Sunday, October 22nd, the Bangkok Thailand LDS temple is being dedicated and there is a long an complicated relationship with the LDS church and Thailand that few know about.
Our guest on this episode has spent decades in Thailand, first as a missionary and then working and raising a family in the LDS church. His unique perspective sheds light on the tumultuous past and culture clash between an American church and Buddhist tradition.
The LDS missionary incident of 1972 gained international attention and forever changed missionary work in Thailand. The LDS church learned valuable lessons in respecting culture and training outgoing missionaries to understand and work within the framework of other cultures worldwide.
This is an event that we certainly knew nothing about and were absolutely fascinated to hear the story from our guest, who will remain anonymous for personal reasons. We appreciate him bringing this story to Mormonish Podcast so we can gain a greater understanding of the LDS church's history in Thailand.
