This morning we discuss the words we will exclaim tomorrow in synagogue as we complete Sefer Shemot (the Book of Exodus): Chazak, Chazak, V'Nitchazeik (be strong, be strong, and be strengthened from each other)! We quote from Reut Tzukerman how this speaks to us in this moment, to feel we can accomplish this Torah learning, amidst the distractions of war in Israel and antisemitism around the world, and the ways in which this builds our character and spiritual strength. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
