100 years ago, if you were talking about teenagers, no one would know what you were talking about. What are the ramifications of creating this new category in society and in the Church?
When teenagers were revoked from the adults category, there were isolated into their own classification. Not grouped with adults meant they were able in many ways to continue the way of life they knew for their whole existence but with more bodily maturity too.
Here are a few points of discussion:
- 2 age categories for all of time: Adults and Children
- Culture of the 1960's and 1970's
- Youth culture over adult culture
- God and the faith are "ever ancient and ever new" not forever young
- What are the effects of this in youth ministry?
- Maturity is restrained and unfree, bound to God and the crosses He sends and the people He binds us to. True freedom is not youthful unattachment, but the loss of the types of freedoms the world pursues
