Until Everyone is Free
"I had my jubilee three years ago. I rejoiced all I could then; I can't rejoice no more." -Harriet Tubman
Decades later civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer articulated a similar sentiment: “Nobody’s free until everyone is free.”
Harriet Tubman found her own way to freedom. She experienced her own personal jubilee. At some point, she understood that there was no way for her to truly enjoy her freedom, until everyone else had the opportunity to do the same.
She found her greatest purpose and greatest fulfillment in helping others find their freedom. She used her liberation to liberate others.
Any of us that have the opportunity to climb the ladder of success in any way, have the responsibility to reach back and lift others even as we climb. Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
