NASEEM SHAWARBA – CHARACTER #97: 拍 PĀI MAKE A MOVIE
Could I take 2 props for the same character? Because sometimes my first prop which represents the character doesn’t fit in the scene. For example, the sun prop 日- sometimes I imagine the sun and sometimes I imagine my actor wearing yellow clothes which looks like a sun.
30:37JULIAN LAFFEY – CHARACTER #121: 己 JǏ MAKE A MOVIE
I used “taking a selfie” to convey the meaning “self”.
31:50SIDNEY GREEN – CHARACTER #139: 去 QÙ CASTING CALL
Although I am aware of the difference in sound I think, as a Brit, that the ‘qu’ lends itself to the character of The Queen!
33:00CHAD RESSLER – CHARACTER #32: 乞 QǏ“ CASTING CALL
Shu Qi. Actress who had roles in movies such as The Transporter and The Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen.
33:41YARDEN IZAK – CHARACTER #86: 面 MIÀN MAKE A MOVIE
面 =百 + 目 ?* guys I don’t see that…
It’s more like a knife (一)+ mouth (口) + nose (自,) isn’t it?
33:58RYAN SMITH – FROM EMAIL
I’ve been using Anki for over a decade at this point, so I have quite a bit of prior experience it already (my largest interval right now is 18.5 years, which I think amounts to, “I never see this card again”). This has allowed me to feel quite comfortable in making some small changes to the Anki cards & process that I thought I might share with you.
Adding new cards
Rather than setting the new card limit to 0 and manually doing a custom study to add the new cards, I go in and suspend all the cards when I import the new decks. Then having a search limiting to the Mandarin Blueprint deck along with,is:suspended I manually unsuspend them when I get to that point in the course. Has a nice benefit of putting me in the card editor while unsuspending them to add my images & custom text.
NASEEM SHAWARBA – CHARACTER #74: 上 SHÀNG NEW VOCAB
Hello Luke and Phil. There are a lot of HSK 1 hearing training apps in which you hear the pīnyīn, and you should guess the initial or tones. Now when I use these apps, I have to hide the character. Because when I see the character – “boom”- that was in my friend’s backyard or kitchen. Actually, I remember the full scene with all the small details, so I hide the character and use these apps. That’s amazing!
Thanks again Luke and Phil for making learning Chinese so easy.
40:19KEITH WILKENS – CHARACTER #22: 兄 XIŌNG MAKE A MOVIE
Is this more commonly used than ‘Ge1ge1’ for older brother?
42:27CHAD RESSLER – CHARACTER #25: 计 JÌ MAKE A MOVIE
Location: Backyard of childhood home
Actor: Janice my stepmom
Props: Megaphone and Cross
I’m standing in my childhood home backyard where I see an abnormally large cross and my stepmom Janice standing in front of it looking distraught. All she keeps doing is yelling into a megaphone at this huge cross “What is your PLAN for my life”!
46:24JAMES KAI – FROM EMAIL
Hi Guys,
I have married a Chinese girl 3 years ago and promised myself that I will communicate fluently with her family within 5 years time. I am currently visiting her parents with her and I understand a fair bit because my wife speaks to me in mandarin quite often, but time is ticking and I’m not speaking as much as I would like to. Can you please let me know if a years period would be enough with your Blueprint to learn conversational fluent mandarin? I would really love to impress my in-laws in 2020 and have a good conversation with them when they visit us in April next year in Australia.
Many thanks,
James Kai
52:48JIM AWOFADEJU – CHARACTER #5: 干 GĀN CASTING CALL
I chose Gary Coleman as my actor. I remember Gary Coleman because I watched a funny episode of Drake & Josh when I was a teenager. Drake & Josh was a sitcom that aired in the United States on the Nickelodeon channel. The episode was funny because Drake & Josh got in trouble for selling Gary Coleman grills.
53:41SIDNEY GREEN – LEVEL 13 REVIEW
Great to reach end of level 13. I have to say that I have found it quite different without the videos. Although I appreciate the speed with which I am able to deal with each character. I just hope that the movies created are vivid enough to stay in my memory. I am going really well keeping up with Anki . Overall I am loving it and feel I am getting somewhere ! It is a real thrill to be able to read and speak the sentences without PinYin.
56:56KAI-MING CHEAH – CHARACTER #24: 说 SHUŌ MAKE A MOVIE
Script 2: Speaking is an easy one to visualize. Shrek’s got a megaphone and is speaking so much that you are finding it very hard to take. You take a big wad of cash and stuff it into his megaphone to shut him up.
Where is the Devil component in this example?
58:14NASEEM SHAWARBA – CHARACTER #58: 朋 PÉNG MAKE A MOVIE
Happy new year Luke and Phil
péng
P: Peter
Location: my friend Stefan house. I know the place very well and have a lot of emotions there.
Props : 2x moon
Peter was in the kitchen training with the with kettlebells (the moons look like kettlebells ) he was training shrugs , the weight was very heavy.
The motivation couch Ronnie Coleman comes and shouts YEAH BUDDY LIGHT WEIGHT BUDDY!
Ronnie is famous for this speech.
This movie is a bit long only because I’m explaining. But in my mind, it is just 3D things.
How is my movie??
JIM AWOFADEJU – CHARACTER #11: 什 SHÉN MAKE A MOVIE
I also chose Shaquille O’Neal as my actor for the sh- Pinyin initial. Shaquille O’Neal is widely known as a professional basketball player, but he did star in some movies. I haven’t watched that many of his movies, but he did make an appearance in Good Burger, starring Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson. He’s a TV personality now working on Inside the NBA. I like the segment Shaqtin’ A Fool. Shaq certainly brings humor. He has also been featured as an actor in several TV advertisements.
1:01:26RYAN SMITH – CHARACTER #63: 的 DE MAKE A MOVIE
Since I had picked a target as a prop for 中 and couldn’t figure out how to make sure I didn’t confuse a target and a bull’s eye, I ended up pulling in the comic book character Bull’s Eye instead (I’m actually visualizing the character played by Colin Farrell in the terrible Daredevil movie).
1:02:44NASEEM SHAWARBA – CHARACTER #105: 来 LÁI MAKE A MOVIE
There is no play button on the video. Is this a system problem? Or am I on my own now?
1:04:13JIM AWOFADEJU – FROM EMAIL
I don’t know whether or not you talked about what life is like where you live in Chengdu. What is the cost of living like? How would you rate the cost of food and transportation? I have never been to China before, but I’m certain that you guys (Luke and Phil) have been to many different cities in China. If I was interested in moving to China in the future to live and/or work, would Chengdu be a great city? Please consider talking about life in Chengdu or other Chinese cities in a podcast episode.
